Guided Shark Fishing Trip In Galveston

If you're looking for an adrenaline-pumping adventure that'll test your fishing skills against some of the Gulf's most powerful predators, our seasonal shark hunt is exactly what you need. From June through September, when the Gulf waters warm up and these apex predators move in close to shore, we'll take you out for 6 hours of serious shark fishing that'll leave you with stories to tell for years. This isn't your typical bay fishing trip – we're talking about hooking into fish that can stretch 6 feet or more and fight like freight trains.

What to Expect on the Water

We kick off bright and early at 7 AM from The Galveston Yacht Marina, which gives us the perfect launch point to hit both the productive waters of Galveston Bay and the deeper Gulf waters where the big sharks patrol. Our 26-foot Robalo Bay Boat is built for this kind of fishing – she's got twin 200HP Suzuki engines that'll get us to the hot spots fast, and there's plenty of room for up to 6 anglers to spread out and fish comfortably. The boat's got all the modern electronics we need to find structure and baitfish, plus the heavy-duty tackle systems required for battling these powerful fish. Don't forget to bring your valid Texas fishing license – the game wardens are pretty active out there, and nobody wants their day cut short over paperwork. We also offer free cancellation up to 7 days out, so you can book with confidence even if the weather looks iffy.

Gear Setup & Shark Tactics

Shark fishing is all about heavy tackle and smart bait presentation. We'll rig up with circle hooks on wire leaders – these hooks are designed to catch in the corner of the shark's mouth, which makes for safer releases and better hookups overall. The rods we use are serious pieces of equipment, rated for 50-80 pound test line, because even a medium-sized shark can strip hundreds of yards of line in seconds. For bait, we typically use fresh-cut mullet, mackerel, or whatever oily fish we can get our hands on that morning. The key is getting that scent trail working in the current. We'll anchor up on structure or drift along drop-offs where sharks cruise looking for an easy meal. When you get a bite, don't try to horse these fish in – let the drag do its work and be patient. A good shark fight can last 20-30 minutes, and that's half the fun.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Bull sharks are probably the most common target during our summer season, and these stocky fighters are absolutely relentless once hooked. They typically run 4-7 feet in our waters and are known for their aggressive nature and incredible strength. Bulls love the brackish waters where Galveston Bay meets the Gulf, especially around structure like jetties and reefs. What makes them so exciting is their unpredictable fighting style – they'll make powerful runs, then suddenly change direction or dive deep. The best time to target bulls is during the warmer months when they move into shallow water to feed and breed.

Blacktip sharks show up in good numbers from June through August, and they're absolutely spectacular fighters. These sleek predators usually range from 3-6 feet and are famous for their acrobatic jumps when hooked. You'll often see blacktips feeding in schools near the surface, especially when baitfish are thick. They're incredibly fast and will test your drag system with blistering runs that can peel off 100 yards of line before you can blink. What anglers love about blacktips is their aggressive feeding behavior and the visual excitement of watching them leap completely out of the water during the fight.

Hammerhead sharks are the prize catch that every angler hopes for on these trips. Great hammerheads can reach impressive sizes in Gulf waters, with fish over 10 feet not uncommon during peak season. These prehistoric-looking predators are most active during dawn and dusk hours, which is why our early morning departure time works so well. Hammerheads are incredibly strong fighters that use their unique head shape to their advantage, creating massive leverage during the battle. They're also surprisingly smart – they'll often try to wrap your line around structure or dive deep to break you off. Landing a hammerhead is a true test of an angler's skill and patience.

Time to Book Your Spot

This seasonal shark fishing adventure runs from June through September when conditions are prime and the sharks are most active in our area. With only 6 spots available per trip and sharks being one of the most popular targets for visiting anglers, these dates fill up fast during peak summer months. The early morning departure gives you the best shot at hooking into multiple species while avoiding the afternoon heat and wind that can make fighting big fish even more challenging. Whether you're an experienced shark angler looking for your next trophy or a first-timer ready to test yourself against one of the ocean's top predators, this trip delivers the kind of action that keeps people coming back season after season. Book now and get ready for some of the most intense fishing you'll ever experience in Texas waters.
